Adult-at-Risk means any adult who has a physical or mental condition that substantially impairs his or her ability to care for his or her needs.

Elder Adult-at-Risk means any person age 60 or older who has experienced, is currently experiencing, or is at risk of experiencing abuse, neglect, self-neglect or financial exploitation.

Abuse means:

Physical Abuse
(shoved, shaken, drugged, starved, hit kicked or physically hurt)

Emotional Abuse
(isolated from family or friends, verbally assaulted, threatened, harrased, treated like an infant or given the silent treatment)

Sexual Abuse
(being touched inappropriately or forced to perform or watch sexual acts)

Treatment without Consent

Unreasonable Confinement or Restraint

Financial Exploitation

Neglect is the failure of a caregiver to maintain adequate care for the adult-at-risk.

Self-neglect means significant danger to an individual’s physical or mental health because the individual is responsible for his or her own care but fails to obtain adequate care.
